Introduction
A major controversy has surfaced in Maharashtra politics involving Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar.Questions are being raised regarding a high-value land deal in Pune, in which a stamp duty issue of ₹42 crore has come to the fore.
This was Mahar Vatan Stegori land, meaning it was government land which normally private people cannot buy directly, yet this deal was registered in May 2025.During the deal, the company had paid only Rs 500 as stamp duty and had said that a data centre project would be built there, hence they had sought exemption from the government.
But later, when the data centre project was cancelled, the government said that the deal was wrong and now the company will be liable to pay Rs 42 crore in stamp duty and fine for cancelling the deal.
Why did the dispute happen?
- 1.Land transaction – While the actual market value was ₹1800 crore, the deal was done for just ₹300 crore.
- 2.Stamp duty exemption: Up to 7% exemption was taken in the name of data centre.
- 3.Trade of government land: Questions are being raised on how the land of Mahar Watan Stagpray was acquired by a private company.
- 4.Political fallout: Since Ajit Pawar is Maharashtra’s deputy, opposition parties have cornered the government over the deal.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the law will do its work in this matter and no one will be spared. The government has ordered that Amadea Enterprises LLp must pay a total stamp duty of Rs 42 crore before the deal can be cancelled. An FIR has also been filed, but Partha Pawar’s name is not directly mentioned in it because he was not a signatory.Ajit Pawar
Why ₹42 Crore Stamp Duty?
According to officials, if a land deal is cancelled, double stamp duty is levied on it.In this case:•The company will have to pay approximately ₹42 crore. This amount is not a penalty, but a legal stamp duty charge.
Ajit Pawar said that the party did not consult him or any legal advisor while making this deal. While maintaining distance from his son, he said that he came to know about this deal later. He also said that if any mistake has been made then the laws should take effect and the people sitting in the government should also follow the same rules:
- 1.This could be a major image damage situation for the family on political lines.
- 2.Public trust: People’s trust in the government may decrease if transparency is not observed in the case.
- 3.Policy Review: In the future, the government may bring more power on such land deals.
- 4.Legal Example: This case can serve as a precedent for other corporate land disputes.
Why Did the Controversy Start?
Opposition parties alleged that
- The land was undervalued
- Proper approval was not obtained
- There could be irregularities in government land deals
After this, investigation started and FIR was also filed.
Government and Investigation StatusThe Maharashtra government has stated that
- The case is under investigation.
