Oil India Limited organised a live-streaming programme in Duliajan, Assam, around the India Energy Week 2027 Curtain Raiser, with Director (Operations) Trailukya Borgohain highlighting technology, energy security, sustainability and strategic collaboration. IEW 2027 will be held in Kolkata from January 28 to 31, 2027.
DULIAJAN, ASSAM, September 29, 2026: Oil India Limited (OIL) has brought the India Energy Week 2027 conversation to its operational base in Duliajan, Assam, with a Curtain Raiser live-streaming programme focused on the changing requirements of India’s energy sector.
The programme was addressed by Trailukya Borgohain, Director (Operations), Oil India Limited, who highlighted the importance of India Energy Week as a platform connecting government, industry, academia, media and other stakeholders across the energy ecosystem.
The engagement comes shortly after the Government of India formally announced Kolkata as the host city for India Energy Week 2027. The fifth edition of the global energy event will take place from January 28 to 31, 2027, at the New Town Convention Centre in Kolkata, under the theme “Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow.”
Duliajan programme connects Assam with a global energy dialogue
The Duliajan event is significant in the context of Oil India’s long-standing operational presence in Upper Assam. While Duliajan is not the venue of the main India Energy Week 2027 event, the local programme provided OIL employees and stakeholders an opportunity to engage with the national and international energy agenda that will be discussed in Kolkata.
The Curtain Raiser focused on energy security, sustainability, technological advancement, innovation, energy transition and strategic partnerships—issues that increasingly overlap as India attempts to meet rising energy demand while developing cleaner and more efficient energy systems.
For Oil India, the themes have a direct operational relevance. The company remains involved in exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas while also pursuing technologies and initiatives associated with a lower-carbon energy future.
Trailukya Borgohain brings an upstream perspective
Borgohain’s role at the Duliajan programme is notable because of his professional background in exploration and production.
According to Oil India’s official profile, Borgohain joined the company in March 1995 and holds an M.Sc. in Applied Geology from IIT Roorkee and an MBA in Energy Leadership from Texas A&M University, Texarkana. Before becoming Director (Operations), he served as Chief General Manager (Geology & Reservoir). OIL says he has been associated with oil and gas discoveries in Assam, Rajasthan and Gabon and has authored more than 36 exploration evaluation reports.
His professional background places the IEW 2027 discussion within the practical realities of exploration, reservoir management, field development and production.
That is particularly relevant to the theme of “Securing Energy.” For an upstream company, energy security involves not only policy and international supply chains but also the ability to discover, develop and produce domestic resources efficiently.
What “Unlocking Innovation” means for the energy sector
The first part of the IEW 2027 theme—“Unlocking Innovation”—reflects the growing role of technology throughout the energy value chain.
The official IEW programme is designed to bring together policymakers, energy companies, technology developers, investors and other stakeholders to examine technologies and partnerships affecting the future of energy. Its strategic conference will address pathways towards secure, inclusive and affordable energy systems while examining the development of future low-carbon economies.
For companies such as Oil India, innovation can have applications across both conventional and emerging energy activities.
These include improved exploration methods, reservoir modelling, production optimisation, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, operational efficiency and technologies designed to reduce environmental impacts.
The broader IEW 2027 programme is also expected to cover oil and gas, LNG, refining and petrochemicals, hydrogen, biofuels, digitalisation and artificial intelligence, alongside emerging energy technologies.
Energy security remains central as India’s demand grows
The second component of the theme—“Securing Energy”—comes against the backdrop of India’s expanding energy requirements.
The Government’s announcement describes India as a rapidly growing major economy whose energy choices have implications beyond its borders. IEW 2027 is therefore being positioned as a forum to examine the relationship between energy security, affordability, technology, investment and sustainability.
For Oil India, this issue is closely connected with its core business.
Duliajan has historically been associated with OIL’s exploration and production operations in Assam, making the location particularly relevant to discussions about domestic hydrocarbon production and energy infrastructure.
At the same time, the company’s wider strategy increasingly encompasses technologies and energy sources beyond conventional oil and gas.
From hydrocarbons to a broader energy portfolio
The third part of the IEW 2027 theme—“Shaping Tomorrow”—points toward the longer-term transformation of the energy sector.
The transition does not mean that conventional energy disappears immediately. Instead, companies operating in the sector are having to manage several objectives simultaneously: maintaining reliable energy supplies, improving efficiency, developing new technologies and reducing environmental impacts.
That balancing act is particularly relevant for Oil India.
The company’s operational expertise remains centred on oil and gas, while its broader corporate direction also includes alternative-energy and decarbonisation initiatives. The result is a business environment in which technological innovation can support both conventional production and emerging energy systems.
The Duliajan Curtain Raiser therefore connects a traditional upstream energy centre with a national conversation increasingly focused on the entire energy transition.
Kolkata to host the fifth India Energy Week
India Energy Week 2027 will mark the event’s first edition in eastern India, according to the Government’s announcement.
The event is expected to bring together more than 75,000 energy professionals and over 700 international exhibitors. The previous edition in Goa attracted more than 75,000 energy professionals, 700 exhibiting companies, participants from more than 120 countries and more than 6,500 conference delegates.
The Kolkata edition will therefore provide a wider international setting for conversations that have already begun through Curtain Raiser programmes such as the one organised by OIL in Duliajan.
The location also gives eastern India a larger connection to the global energy dialogue, with the Government specifically highlighting the opportunity for businesses, institutions and energy stakeholders from the region to engage with international partners.
Why the Duliajan Curtain Raiser matters
The Duliajan programme illustrates how the IEW 2027 agenda extends beyond a four-day conference.
At the local level, it brings together OIL’s operational community and the broader energy-policy conversation. At the national level, it reflects India’s effort to connect energy security with technological development and investment. Internationally, IEW 2027 is being positioned as a platform for discussions around the future structure of the global energy system.
For Oil India, these themes intersect directly with its role as an upstream energy company and its efforts to respond to a changing energy landscape.
The key message emerging from the Duliajan programme is therefore not simply about an upcoming conference. It is about the increasingly interconnected questions facing India’s energy sector: how to secure supplies, how to deploy technology, how to improve efficiency, how to attract partnerships and investment, and how to manage the transition toward cleaner energy while meeting present-day demand.
With India Energy Week 2027 scheduled for January 28–31 in Kolkata, the Duliajan Curtain Raiser represents an early regional engagement with that much larger national and global conversation.
